What is a vet tech?
Veterinary technicians are dedicated and knowledgeable individuals. They complete a degree in veterinary technology through an accredited program and then go on to take a national board exam in order to become licensed. Once they earn their license, vet techs are not done yet. They must then complete continuing education requirements in order to renew their license. This helps to ensure that they are up to date in the latest in veterinary medicine.
A day in the life of a vet tech
Vet techs must be compassionate as well as educated. They play in integral role in helping your pet to feel comfortable and cared for during his or her stay at our hospital.
Perhaps the busiest members of our staff, our veterinary technicians perform a wide variety of tasks. They care for and monitor hospitalized patients, assist with medical and surgical procedures, perform laboratory tests, take radiographs (X-rays), perform dental cleanings, monitor anesthesia, and administer prescribed medications and treatments. They are also largely responsible for client education.
This week is National Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week, and we are happy to have a wonderful technician staff to appreciate. We want to thank each of our valuable technicians for their contributions to Union Lake Veterinary Hospital. Without them it would be difficult for us to provide the high standard of care to which we hold ourselves every day. Next time you visit our hospital, be sure to thank the vet techs you meet.
